History

ACADEMIA DE SAN BARTOLOME DE TAGUIG, formerly known as LITTLE STARS KINDERGARTEN SCHOOL located at General Luna Street, Tuktukan Taguig City, was founded and headed by the president of the school board of directors Mr. Brigido C. Gongora and Mrs. Carmelita F. Gongora in 1982.

 

Through the dedication and determination of Mrs. Carmelita F. Gongora to finish her studies, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Major in Home Economics in the University of the East year 1970. To begin her teaching career, as an educator, she taught in the Grade School Department of San Beda College in Manila and Mountain View Children’s Montessori School in Marikina City from 1971 to 1973. She then specialized in Early Childhood Education at Philippine Normal College in 1976.

 

Through hard work and perseverance of her husband, MSgt. Brigido C. Gongora of Philippine Marine Corps and native of Batac, Ilocos Norte, a truly “Home of the Great Leaders” decided to support and prepare to construct their learning institution to educate future leaders with excellence and quality education.

 

From its humble beginning, the school was established in their ancestral house with twenty-seven (27) Preschool learners enrolled, Mrs. Gongora was the only teacher that time, yet she is known for her effective discipline by molding students as holistic individuals and by helping them discover their potentials.

 

The school continued to expand and opened the Elementary Department for School Year 1993-1994 offering grade 1 to 4 with a total of 47 Elementary and 229 Preschool learners. It was also in the same year when the first classes held at the current location of the school and was renamed as LITTLE STARS ACADEMY.

 

The following year, High School Department was formally opened School Year 1994-1995 with (28) First year learners enrolled and was renamed again as Academia de San Bartolome de Taguig (ASBT).

 

It was dedicated under the patronage of St. Bartholomew who is the Patron Saint of Barangay Tuktukan where the school is located.

 

With the change of the name, came the adoption of a new school seal and motto bearing “Veritas et Sapientia Christi” a Latin phrase meaning “The Truth and Wisdom of Christ”.

 

The Philippine Government through the Department of Education recognized the Pre-School program (P-011, S.1999) starting S.Y 1998-1999 and Complete Elementary Course starting S.Y 1999-2000 (E- 017, 1999) and officially recognized the Complete Secondary Course S.Y 2002-2003 (S- 002, 2002) and the Senior High School Curriculum S.Y 2016- 2017 (SHS- 0239,S.2016) offering STEM and ABM Strands.

 

ASBT became a member of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) through the encouragement, advice, and assistance of several individuals, particularly Bishop Crisostomo A. Yalung then Auxiliary Bishop of Manila.

 

Throughout the years, the school community has remained committed to creating an environment in which students are known, supported, challenge, and encourage to grow.
